TREE NEWS update: Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun noted the 54th anniversary of the China-Japan Joint Statement issued on Sept 29, 1972, which normalized bilateral ties. Guo said Japan’s current leaders have abandoned the original intent of normalization, and that the statement and three other political documents remain the political and legal foundation of the relationship and must not be distorted, reversed or undermined.
