Ripple Taps Stripe-Owned Privy to Bring AI Agent Payments and Embedded Wallets to XRP Ledger

Ripple has partnered with Privy, the Stripe-owned embedded wallet provider, to bring AI agent payments to the XRP Ledger. The deal targets agentic commerce, where software agents transact autonomously, and positions XRP as a settlement layer for machine-to-machine payments.

Ripple and Privy Team Up for Agentic Commerce on XRP Ledger

Ripple has partnered with Privy, the embedded wallet infrastructure company owned by Stripe, to bring AI-driven payments and wallet-based agent commerce to the XRP Ledger. The collaboration is designed to let software agents — autonomous programs that can browse, negotiate, and transact on behalf of users — pay for services directly from embedded wallets, without requiring manual approval for each transaction.

The move positions the XRP Ledger as an early settlement layer for what the industry calls agentic commerce: a model in which AI agents handle routine purchases, subscriptions, API calls, and micro-transactions on a continuous basis. Privy’s wallet stack lets developers embed self-custodial wallets into apps, while Ripple contributes the XRP Ledger’s fast, low-cost transaction rails and its growing institutional footprint.

Why Agentic Payments Need New Rails

Traditional payment systems assume a human clicks a button to authorize each charge. AI agents break that assumption. They operate at machine speed, often initiating thousands of small transactions that would be impractical — and uneconomical — to settle through card networks or batch banking systems.

  • Micropayments: Agents need to pay fractions of a cent for data, compute, or API access.
  • Programmability: Spending rules, budgets, and permissions must be enforced in code, not by manual review.
  • Settlement speed: Agents cannot wait days for reconciliation; they need near-instant finality.
  • Identity and custody: Embedded wallets give agents a scoped, revocable spending identity tied to a user or business.

The XRP Ledger’s architecture — a federated consensus mechanism with settlement in seconds and fees measured in fractions of a cent — maps well onto those requirements. Combined with Privy’s developer tooling, the partnership lowers the barrier for fintechs and AI platforms to add agent-initiated payments without building wallet infrastructure from scratch.

The Stripe Connection Matters

Privy’s ownership by Stripe is strategically significant. Stripe has spent years expanding from card processing into stablecoins, crypto payouts, and on-chain settlement. Bringing embedded wallets to the XRP Ledger extends that strategy into the agent economy, where Stripe’s merchant network could eventually serve as the bridge between AI-initiated purchases and real-world goods and services.

For Ripple, the deal is another step in its effort to move beyond cross-border payments and into programmable finance. The company has been building out its custody, stablecoin, and institutional offerings, and agentic payments give the XRP Ledger a fresh use case at a moment when competition among settlement layers is intensifying.

What to Watch

The concept of agentic commerce is still early. Standards for agent identity, spending limits, dispute resolution, and liability remain unsettled. Regulators have yet to clarify how autonomous payments should be treated under money-transmission and consumer-protection rules.

If the Ripple–Privy integration gains developer traction, it could become a template for how blockchains compete in the AI era: not just as speculative assets, but as the settlement layer for machine-to-machine commerce. The winners will likely be the networks that combine low fees, fast finality, and strong developer tooling — a combination the XRP Ledger is now explicitly courting.
