StarkWare Opens OffMarket: Anonymous Trading Comes to Polymarket via ZK Privacy Pools

StarkWare has publicly launched OffMarket, a zero-knowledge privacy service that lets Polymarket users trade without linking their on-chain identity to their positions. Built on Starknet and running on a shared privacy pool with about $1.5 million in capital, the non-custodial tool caps deposits at 1,000 USDC and prohibits US users.

StarkWare Opens OffMarket to the Public

StarkWare has officially opened OffMarket, its privacy-focused trading service, to the general public. The tool lets users trade on Polymarket without publicly linking their on-chain identity to their positions. After a limited beta that began in August, the service is now available to anyone outside restricted jurisdictions.

OffMarket is built on Starknet’s zero-knowledge technology and runs on a shared privacy pool. At launch, the pool holds roughly $1.5 million in capital accumulated across about 17,000 deposits. Each account is currently capped at 1,000 USDC in deposits, a limit StarkWare says it will adjust dynamically based on demand.

How It Works

  • Non-custodial by design: Users retain control of their own keys throughout the process.
  • Native execution: Orders are routed to Polymarket’s native markets, so users face the same prices and fees as any other trader.
  • Timing: Private order execution takes roughly one minute, while withdrawals take several minutes.
  • Not official: OffMarket is not a Polymarket product and there is no formal partnership between the two parties.

Why Privacy Matters for Prediction Markets

Prediction markets are uniquely sensitive to transparency. On a fully public blockchain, every position, entry price, and size is visible to anyone. That creates real problems: large traders get front-run, copy-traded, or targeted by counterparties who can see their hand. For institutional or high-conviction participants, the lack of privacy has long been a barrier to entry.

OffMarket addresses this by breaking the link between a user’s funding wallet and their trading activity. The privacy pool aggregates deposits, and zero-knowledge proofs allow users to prove they own funds in the pool without revealing which deposit is theirs. The result is a trading experience that mirrors the confidentiality of traditional brokerage accounts, which do not broadcast client positions to the world.

The Regulatory Tightrope

The service is not without controversy. Like Polymarket itself, OffMarket prohibits US users, reflecting the ongoing regulatory scrutiny of prediction markets and privacy-enhancing tools in the United States. Privacy pools have drawn attention from regulators and researchers alike, who worry that anonymity could facilitate illicit activity. StarkWare’s approach — a permissioned pool with deposit caps and compliance guardrails — appears designed to thread that needle.

Forward Outlook

OffMarket’s public launch is a test case for whether zero-knowledge privacy can become a standard feature of DeFi and prediction markets rather than a niche tool. If adoption grows, expect competitors to follow, and expect regulators to take a closer look at how privacy pools are governed. For now, the experiment is live, small, and closely watched. The 1,000 USDC cap suggests StarkWare is prioritizing caution over scale — a signal that privacy in crypto is entering a more institutional, compliance-aware phase.
