In the last 24 hours, $304 million in crypto liquidations occurred, with longs accounting for $250 million and shorts just $54 million. Bitcoin and Ethereum led the pain, as over 82,000 traders were wiped out. The data suggests a long squeeze amid fragile market sentiment.

$304M Wiped Out: Longs Take the Hit in Latest Crypto Shakeout

Over the past 24 hours, cryptocurrency markets witnessed a total of $304 million in liquidations, with long positions accounting for $250 million and shorts just $54.35 million. A staggering 82,421 traders were liquidated across major exchanges. Bitcoin (BTC) saw $67.89 million in liquidations, with $55.20 million from longs and $12.69 million from shorts. Ethereum (ETH) followed closely with $60.53 million, including $52.30 million in longs. Solana (SOL) and Zcash (ZEC) each recorded over $11 million in liquidations, while XAG, a silver-backed token, saw $14.98 million, almost entirely from longs.

Market Implications: A Bullish Trap?

The overwhelming dominance of long liquidations suggests a classic long squeeze, where a sudden price drop forced leveraged bulls to unwind positions, exacerbating the downward move. This event highlights the persistent fragility of crypto markets, where high leverage and speculative positioning can trigger cascading liquidations. The largest single liquidation occurred on Binance’s ETHUSDT pair, a $7.03 million long at $2,433.32, underscoring the pain felt by ETH bulls.

Notably, the relatively muted short liquidations indicate that the market was heavily skewed toward bullish sentiment, leaving it vulnerable to sharp corrections. The presence of XAG, a tokenized silver asset, among the top liquidated instruments also points to growing interest in real-world asset (RWA) tokens and their susceptibility to volatility.

Forward-Looking Perspective: Caution Amid Uncertainty

As markets digest this liquidation cascade, traders should remain cautious. The imbalance between long and short liquidations often precedes a period of consolidation or further downside, especially if macroeconomic headwinds persist. However, such shakeouts can also cleanse excessive leverage, setting the stage for a healthier rally. Investors should monitor funding rates and open interest for signs of overheating. With regulatory clarity still evolving and institutional adoption growing, the crypto market’s resilience will be tested in the coming weeks.
