XRP ETFs Draw 13 Straight Weeks of Inflows, Yet Price Keeps Falling — Here’s Why

US spot XRP ETFs have logged 13 straight weeks of net inflows, including about $740,000 on October 14 while BTC, ETH, SOL, and HYPE funds lost nearly $400 million combined. Yet XRP's price keeps sliding, as large holders move coins to exchanges and modest ETF demand gets absorbed by whale supply.

A Contradiction in Plain Sight

US spot XRP exchange-traded funds recorded roughly $740,000 in net inflows on October 14, extending a streak that has now run for 13 consecutive weeks. On the same day, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and Hyperliquid funds bled nearly $400 million combined. The divergence is striking: money keeps entering XRP products even as the token’s price grinds lower.

The pattern raises an uncomfortable question for ETF bulls who spent years arguing that institutional access would be the catalyst to send XRP to new highs. So far, the flows have not translated into price appreciation — and the reason lies in what happens beneath the surface of those headline inflow numbers.

Why Inflows Aren’t Moving the Price

Several forces are working against each other:

  • Size mismatch. The inflows are small in absolute terms — hundreds of thousands of dollars daily against a multi-billion-dollar asset. ETF demand of this scale is a rounding error relative to daily spot trading volume.
  • Large holders are distributing. On-chain data shows major XRP wallets moving coins onto exchanges, a classic precursor to selling. ETF buying is being absorbed by whale supply, not driving net new accumulation.
  • Rotation, not conviction. Some of the money entering XRP funds may be rotating out of BTC and ETH products after a rough stretch, rather than representing fresh capital entering the asset class.
  • Macro headwinds. Risk assets broadly have struggled, and XRP’s price action is tied to the same liquidity and sentiment cycle as the rest of crypto.

The Broader Implication

The XRP episode is a case study in a lesson the market keeps relearning: ETF flows are a necessary condition for institutional adoption, but not a sufficient one for price discovery. Flows can be offset by unlocks, whale distribution, and derivatives positioning. When supply from long-term holders meets steady but modest ETF demand, price can drift sideways or lower for months.

It also complicates the narrative that XRP’s legal clarity in the US — a hard-won outcome after years of litigation — would immediately re-rate the token. Regulatory certainty opens doors; it does not force buyers through them.

What to Watch Next

Three signals matter from here. First, whether the inflow streak persists through a period of price weakness — sustained buying into a downtrend is a genuinely bullish tell. Second, whether whale exchange deposits reverse, signaling accumulation instead of distribution. Third, whether broader risk appetite returns, since XRP rarely rallies against a falling tide.

If flows continue and supply tightens, the setup improves. If inflows are merely masking distribution, the 13-week streak will be remembered less as a triumph and more as a warning about reading too much into ETF data.
