Multiliquid Raises $8M to Build Settlement Layer for Tokenized Assets

Multiliquid has raised $8 million in pre-seed and seed funding, led by Polychain, to build a settlement platform for tokenized real-world assets. The raise highlights growing investor focus on post-trade infrastructure as tokenization moves from issuance to production-scale trading.

Multiliquid Secures $8 Million to Power Tokenized Asset Settlement

Multiliquid, a settlement platform designed for tokenized real-world assets, has raised $8 million across its pre-seed and seed funding rounds. Polychain Capital led the seed round, signaling continued venture interest in the infrastructure layer of the RWA tokenization thesis.

The raise comes as tokenization of traditional assets — from treasuries and private credit to real estate and commodities — moves from proof-of-concept to production. Institutions including BlackRock, Franklin Templeton, and JPMorgan have launched or piloted tokenized products, but the market still lacks robust, interoperable settlement rails. Multiliquid aims to fill that gap by providing a dedicated venue where tokenized assets can be traded and settled with the speed and finality that blockchain promises, without forcing participants to abandon familiar custody and compliance workflows.

Why Settlement Is the Missing Link

Tokenization has largely solved issuance: putting a fund share or a bond on-chain is now relatively straightforward. What remains hard is the post-trade lifecycle — atomic delivery-versus-payment, cross-chain transfers, and reconciliation between on-chain state and off-chain ledgers. These are the frictions that keep institutional allocators on the sidelines. A purpose-built settlement platform can reduce counterparty risk, compress settlement cycles from T+2 to near-instant, and unlock capital efficiency that traditional market infrastructure cannot match.

Polychain’s backing is notable. The firm has a track record of early positions in DeFi and infrastructure, and its lead role suggests conviction that settlement — not just issuance — will capture durable value in the tokenization stack. The $8 million total across pre-seed and seed is modest by crypto standards, but it is consistent with a capital-efficient infrastructure build rather than a consumer-facing land grab.

Competitive Landscape and Implications

  • Incumbents: DTCC, Euroclear, and other central securities depositories are developing their own digital asset settlement pilots. Startups must offer interoperability, not replacement.
  • Stablecoin rails: Platforms like Circle and Paxos have normalized on-chain settlement for cash legs; Multiliquid can build on that base for asset legs.
  • Regulatory clarity: Progress on tokenized securities frameworks in the EU, Singapore, and select U.S. states reduces legal risk for settlement providers.

The broader RWA market has crossed $100 billion in on-chain value by some measures, though estimates vary widely depending on what is counted. Even conservative figures show sustained growth, and the bottleneck is shifting from demand to plumbing. Settlement is the plumbing.

Forward Look

Multiliquid’s challenge will be to convert early integrations into network effects. Settlement is a two-sided market: value accrues to the platform that connects the most issuers with the most buyers. If Multiliquid can secure anchor participants — a major custodian, a broker-dealer, or a tokenization platform — it can bootstrap liquidity. If it remains a point solution, it risks being absorbed by larger infrastructure players.

The next 12–18 months will be decisive. Watch for announcements of institutional partners, supported asset classes, and whether Multiliquid pursues regulatory licenses or partners with regulated entities. The funding is a start; execution in a crowded, compliance-heavy market is the real test.
