Modular vs. ZK: TIA Surges 18%, STRK Plummets 20% as Altcoin Rotation Accelerates

Celestia (TIA) jumped 18.44% while Starknet (STRK) fell 20.45% on October 16, highlighting a sharp rotation within crypto infrastructure tokens. Injective and Filecoin also posted strong gains, while Pyth Network and smaller-cap tokens declined.

Modular vs. ZK: TIA Surges 18%, STRK Plummets 20% as Altcoin Rotation Accelerates

October 16 — The top 100 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization displayed sharp divergence today, with Celestia (TIA) leading gains at 18.44% to trade at $0.7001, while Starknet (STRK) plunged 20.45% to $0.07399. Injective (INJ) rose 13.88% to $9.00, Filecoin (FIL) gained 9.17% to $1.17, Polkadot (DOT) added 5.58% to $1.17, and ether.fi (ETHFI) climbed 5.19% to $0.6894.

On the losing side, Pyth Network (PYTH) fell 13.35% to $0.08627, Canton (CC) dropped 6.60% to $0.1025, Midnight (NIGHT) slipped 5.04% to $0.0413, and Venice Token (VVV) declined 5.04% to $23.57.

Modular Narrative Regains Momentum

The outsized move in TIA suggests capital is rotating back into the modular blockchain thesis. Celestia’s data availability layer has become a key infrastructure piece for rollups and app-chains, and its recent price action may reflect renewed developer activity or ecosystem announcements. Injective’s double-digit gain points to continued interest in specialized Layer 1 networks focused on finance and derivatives.

Filecoin and Polkadot, both older infrastructure plays, posted solid gains, indicating that traders are broadening exposure beyond the hottest narratives into established networks with tangible usage metrics.

ZK Rollup Tokens Under Pressure

Starknet’s steep decline stands out. STRK has struggled since its airdrop and token generation event, facing persistent selling pressure as early recipients exit. The broader zero-knowledge rollup sector has also faced questions about token utility and value accrual, especially as transaction fees on Layer 2s remain low.

Pyth Network’s drop may be tied to profit-taking after recent oracle-related news, while Canton, Midnight, and Venice Token are smaller-cap assets prone to volatility.

Forward Outlook

This kind of dispersion — where infrastructure tokens like TIA and INJ rally while ZK tokens slump — often signals a market in a stock-picker’s phase rather than a broad beta rally. If Bitcoin and Ethereum remain range-bound, expect continued rotation into narratives with clear catalysts. Watch for upcoming token unlocks, mainnet upgrades, and ecosystem grant announcements as potential drivers. The modular vs. monolithic debate is far from settled, and today’s price action shows the market is actively repricing both sides.
