KuCoin TradFi Review: Crypto Exchanges Bet Big on 24/7 Access to Global Markets

KuCoin TradFi Review: Crypto Exchanges Bet Big on 24/7 Access to Global Markets

Trading in perpetual contracts linked to stocks, commodities and other real-world assets (RWAs) reached $347 billion in May 2026. During the first five months of the year, these contracts generated more than eight times the volume of tokenized assets traded on spot markets. The figures underscore how traditional markets are becoming a major business line for crypto exchanges, with KuCoin among the platforms pushing to offer round-the-clock access to global markets through synthetic derivatives.

The Rise of TradFi Perpetuals

Perpetual contracts tied to RWAs—often called “TradFi perps”—allow traders to speculate on price movements of equities, commodities and indices without owning the underlying asset. Unlike tokenized stocks, which require custody and settlement infrastructure, these contracts are settled in crypto and trade 24/7. That structure has resonated with crypto-native traders who want exposure to traditional markets without leaving the blockchain ecosystem.

The volume gap is striking: spot tokenized assets, including tokenized treasuries and private credit, saw far less activity than the synthetic perpetual market. This suggests that demand for trading and hedging is currently outpacing demand for on-chain ownership of real-world assets.

KuCoin’s TradFi Offering

KuCoin’s TradFi product aims to bridge this gap by offering perpetual contracts on major global markets. The exchange positions itself as a one-stop shop for crypto traders seeking 24/7 exposure to stocks, commodities and foreign exchange. While the model offers flexibility, it also raises questions about liquidity, oracle reliability and regulatory scrutiny, especially as synthetic exposure to traditional assets blurs the line between crypto and securities.

Implications for the RWA Narrative

The growth of TradFi perps does not necessarily diminish the long-term case for tokenization. Instead, it highlights a two-track market: one for speculative trading and another for asset ownership. For exchanges, the former is a high-volume, fee-generating business that can attract users without the heavy compliance burden of tokenized securities. For regulators, the rise of synthetic RWA products may prompt closer scrutiny of how these instruments are classified and marketed.

Forward-Looking Perspective

As crypto exchanges compete for user attention, 24/7 access to traditional markets could become a standard feature rather than a differentiator. The key test will be whether these platforms can maintain deep liquidity and robust risk controls during periods of market stress. If they succeed, the line between crypto trading and traditional finance will continue to blur—not through tokenization alone, but through derivatives that replicate market exposure in a crypto-native format.
