HYPE Spot ETFs Record Daily Net Outflow
TREE NEWS reports: On November 6, U.S.-listed HYPE spot exchange-traded funds experienced a combined net outflow of $7.96 million. The redemption was led by the Bitwise Hyperliquid ETF (ticker: BHYP), which saw $7.05 million exit the fund on the day. Despite the outflow, BHYP maintains cumulative net inflows of $114 million since inception. The 21Shares Hyperliquid ETF (ticker: THYP) followed with a net outflow of $907,000, while its historical total net inflow stands at $27.41 million.
Context and Industry Implications
The outflows come amid a broader cooling in the crypto ETF space, as investors reassess risk exposure following a period of volatile price action in digital assets. Hyperliquid, the decentralized perpetual exchange that HYPE tokens represent, has been one of the standout DeFi protocols of 2024, but its token has faced selling pressure recently. The redemption activity suggests that some investors are taking profits or reducing positions after the strong rally that followed the launch of these ETFs.
Bitwise and 21Shares were among the first issuers to bring HYPE-backed products to market, capitalizing on demand for diversified crypto exposure beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum. However, the relatively small size of these funds compared to mainstream crypto ETFs means that daily flows can be disproportionately large in percentage terms. The $7.96 million outflow represents a notable fraction of the combined assets under management for these products, highlighting the sensitivity of niche crypto ETFs to market sentiment.
Forward-Looking Perspective
Looking ahead, the performance of HYPE ETFs will likely depend on the underlying health of the Hyperliquid ecosystem and the broader DeFi market. If the protocol continues to innovate and attract trading volume, inflows could resume. Conversely, sustained outflows may signal waning investor interest in altcoin-focused ETF products, especially as competition from other crypto investment vehicles intensifies. Market participants will be watching upcoming flow data closely to gauge whether this is a temporary pullback or the start of a more prolonged trend.
