Solana Fights Back: Official Nudge Propels Meme Coins Past $100M, Toly Courts Robinhood

Solana's official backing propelled STONK and ZCAT past $100M market cap, signaling a counterattack in the meme coin war. The move highlights Solana's push into stock-paired memes and RWA, with co-founder Toly courting Robinhood amid intensifying competition.

Solana Fights Back: Official Nudge Propels Meme Coins Past $100M, Toly Courts Robinhood

Over the weekend, Solana’s meme coin ecosystem roared back to life as two tokens—STONK and ZCAT—briefly topped $100 million in market capitalization. STONK, the first stock-paired meme coin on Solana to reach that milestone, surged over 110% on September 6, while ZCAT peaked near $100 million before settling around $80 million. The rally signals a strategic counteroffensive by Solana against the meme coin dominance of Robinhood Chain and BSC.

Official Endorsement and the StonkFun Effect

Central to this surge is StonkFun, a stock-paired meme launchpad on Solana, similar to Robinhood Chain’s Long platform. Launched on August 3, StonkFun integrated with Raydium’s LaunchLab on September 6, addressing sniper bot issues. The platform has issued over 8,220 meme coins, but only STONK and ZCAT have exceeded $10 million in market cap—both receiving explicit support from Solana’s official channels and co-founder Toly.

StonkFun has aggressively bought back over $1 million worth of STONK and airdropped more than $1 million in ZEC to ZCAT holders. Despite modest platform fees ($110k in 24 hours), the tokens’ valuations are largely driven by perceived official backing. On September 4, StonkFun’s announcement about stock tokens was amplified by retweets and likes from Raydium, Solana’s official account, and Toly—a clear signal to the meme community.

The Battle for Meme Supremacy

Solana’s urgency stems from its decline in the current meme cycle. While Pump.fun pioneered the meme coin era, it has pivoted to mobile and social trading, leaving a gap that Robinhood Chain and BSC have exploited. Over the past 30 days, Solana’s chain fees dropped to $22 million, ranking 18th among blockchains. STONK’s rise is thus ideological—a proxy for Solana’s fight to reclaim meme coin mindshare.

More critically, stock-paired meme coins are a gateway to tokenized equities (RWA). Unlike pure memes, they carry positive connotations of innovation and TradFi integration. Solana desperately needs this narrative to bolster its RWA ambitions.

Toly’s Robinhood Overture

On September 5, Toly publicly suggested that Robinhood Chain overpays Arbitrum—10% of gas revenue—noting that these fees could cover 4x Solana’s transaction costs or even subsidize free user trades. Offchain Labs’ Steven Goldfeder retorted that Robinhood chose to be a ‘landlord’ on Arbitrum, retaining 90% of fees, whereas Solana offers no such revenue share. Robinhood has remained silent, leaving Solana to fend for itself.

Outlook

Solana’s official nudge has ignited short-term momentum, but sustaining it requires more than endorsements. The ecosystem must build competitive infrastructure for stock-paired memes and RWA. If Toly’s courtship of Robinhood fails, Solana will need to rely on its own community and innovations to outpace rivals. The next few weeks will be crucial in determining whether Solana can turn this spark into a lasting revival.
