Japan FX reserves fall for 4th month to $1.2075T

Japan’s foreign exchange reserves dropped by $79.575 billion to approximately $1.2075 trillion at the end of August, marking the fourth consecutive monthly decline. Analysts attribute the decrease mainly to the yen-buying, dollar-selling intervention conducted by the government and central bank in late July. The ministry noted that the impact of that intervention was not reflected in August data due to settlement lags.
