Starknet Launches Off Market: Privacy-Preserving Prediction Market Trading Goes Live

Starknet has launched Off Market, a privacy-preserving prediction market trading service built on Polymarket, allowing users to take positions without publicly linking trades to their wallets. The move signals a broader push to bring zero-knowledge privacy to mainstream DeFi applications.

Starknet Debuts Privacy Layer for Prediction Markets

Starknet has officially launched Off Market, a privacy-focused prediction market trading service built on top of Polymarket, on its mainnet. The service allows users to establish prediction market positions without publicly linking their trading activity to their on-chain wallet identity — a significant step forward for privacy in decentralized finance.

How It Works

Off Market leverages Starknet’s zero-knowledge rollup architecture to shield the relationship between a user’s wallet and their trading positions. While Polymarket has become the dominant venue for event-based prediction markets, its transparent on-chain nature means every position, entry price, and payout is visible to anyone with a block explorer. Off Market addresses this by using STARK proofs to validate trades without exposing the underlying account linkage.

Key features include:

  • Shielded position creation on Polymarket markets
  • Zero-knowledge verification of trade validity
  • Mainnet deployment on Starknet’s Cairo-based VM
  • Non-custodial architecture preserving user control of funds

Why Privacy Matters for Prediction Markets

Prediction markets are uniquely sensitive to transparency. When positions are public, large traders face front-running, copy-trading, and even social or professional backlash for bets placed on politically or culturally sensitive outcomes. In traditional finance, institutional desks guard their positions carefully; in DeFi, everything is exposed by default. Off Market’s value proposition is that it brings a degree of confidentiality that could attract sophisticated traders, funds, and even corporate participants who might otherwise avoid on-chain prediction markets entirely.

Starknet’s Growing Privacy Narrative

This launch fits Starknet’s broader strategy of differentiating itself through cryptographic innovation rather than raw throughput alone. While competing L2s battle over TPS and fees, Starknet has increasingly positioned zero-knowledge proofs as a tool not just for scaling, but for privacy and compliance-friendly selective disclosure. Off Market is one of the first consumer-facing applications to make that pitch tangible.

Forward Outlook

The big question is adoption. Privacy features have historically struggled to gain mainstream traction in DeFi, partly due to regulatory ambiguity and partly because most users simply don’t prioritize anonymity. But prediction markets may be the exception — especially as they grow into a multi-billion-dollar vertical ahead of major electoral and geopolitical events. If Off Market can demonstrate real volume without attracting regulatory scrutiny, it could become a template for privacy layers across other DeFi primitives, from lending to derivatives. Starknet’s bet is that privacy will evolve from a niche feature into a baseline expectation.
