Ritual Raises $25M to Build Financial and Execution Infrastructure for Autonomous AI Agents

Ritual has raised $25 million to build financial, identity, privacy, and execution infrastructure for autonomous AI agents. The raise reflects a shift from AI-assisted crypto tools toward agents that can act independently on-chain — and the trust and settlement layers they will require.

Ritual’s $25M Bet: AI Agents Need Their Own On-Chain Infrastructure

Ritual has raised $25 million in a funding round that positions the project at the center of a fast-emerging narrative: autonomous AI agents that don’t just answer questions, but actually act on their own — and need a financial, identity, privacy, and execution stack to do so.

The raise signals growing investor appetite for infrastructure that sits beneath the AI agent economy, rather than applications that simply bolt AI onto existing crypto use cases.

From AI-Assisted to AI-Autonomous

Early AI+Crypto projects largely focused on using machine learning to optimize trading, analyze on-chain data, or improve DeFi strategies. In those models, AI is a tool and humans remain in the loop. Ritual is targeting a more foundational problem: if AI agents are going to transact, hold assets, prove identity, and execute complex operations autonomously, they need native infrastructure — not retrofitted human-centric rails.

  • Financial rails: agents that can custody and move value without human sign-off.
  • Identity: verifiable credentials so agents can be trusted counterparties.
  • Privacy: execution environments where sensitive logic and data stay confidential.
  • Execution: deterministic, verifiable compute that other protocols can rely on.

Why This Matters for the Broader Market

The AI agent thesis has become one of the most crowded corners of crypto venture. But most activity so far has clustered around agent frameworks, launchpads, and consumer-facing bots. Infrastructure layers — especially those touching payments, identity, and verifiable compute — remain comparatively underbuilt. If agents are to become economic actors at scale, the bottleneck won’t be model intelligence; it will be trust, settlement, and permissioning.

Ritual’s framing also implicitly challenges the assumption that AI agents will simply live inside existing wallets and blockchains. A purpose-built stack could reduce friction, but it also raises questions about interoperability, security guarantees, and whether a fragmented agent-infrastructure landscape will consolidate.

Forward Look

The next 12–18 months will test whether autonomous agents can move from demos to durable economic activity. Key milestones to watch include real transaction volume initiated by agents, integrations with DeFi and RWA protocols, and whether identity and privacy primitives become standard requirements rather than optional features. If the thesis holds, infrastructure providers like Ritual could capture value well before the agent applications themselves mature.
