TREE NEWS reports: Meta Platforms’ new AI agent Muse hit the top of the US free app charts on Apple’s iOS App Store and Google Play as of Monday. Sensor Tower senior analyst Abe Yousef said Muse drew more than 902,000 downloads in the six days after its September 8 launch, versus 773,000 for the previous Meta AI product over the same period. Muse is also available inside WhatsApp, suggesting total users may be higher than standalone app downloads indicate.

AI take
The distribution advantage matters more than the download figure: Meta can seed Muse through WhatsApp, so standalone chart position understates reach and makes the app-store metric a weak proxy for actual adoption. That bundling is the real competitive pressure on standalone AI assistant apps, which lack a comparable installed base to convert. Whether Muse retains those users beyond the launch window, and how much of its usage stays inside WhatsApp rather than the app, is the open question worth watching.
