Visa, Circle, and Ripple Back Velocity’s $10M Raise as Stablecoins Push Into Payment Rails

Velocity raised a $10 million Series A extension from Visa Ventures, Circle Ventures, Ripple, and others, bringing its total Series A to $48 million at a roughly $200 million valuation. The strategic backing signals that stablecoin payment infrastructure is transitioning from a crypto-native bet into a core position for payments incumbents.

Stablecoin Payment Infrastructure Draws Strategic Capital

Velocity, a stablecoin payment and treasury management platform, has closed a $10 million Series A extension, bringing its total Series A raise to $48 million and its post-money valuation to roughly $200 million. The round drew participation from Visa Ventures, Circle Ventures, Ripple, Haun Ventures, Translink Capital, and Mirana Ventures — a roster that reads less like a conventional venture syndicate and more like a consortium of the very institutions stablecoins are being built to serve.

The Strategic Logic Behind the Cap Table

The presence of Visa, Circle, and Ripple is the headline here. Visa represents the incumbent card and settlement network that has spent recent years quietly integrating stablecoin settlement into its treasury operations. Circle is the issuer of USDC and a core piece of dollar-denominated on-chain liquidity. Ripple brings cross-border payment corridors and its own regulated stablecoin ambitions. Together, they signal that stablecoin infrastructure is no longer a crypto-native bet — it is becoming a strategic position for payments incumbents.

This is consistent with a broader pattern. Stablecoins have moved from a trading instrument used to park capital between crypto positions into a genuine settlement layer for corporate treasuries, remittances, and cross-border B2B payments. The pitch is straightforward: faster settlement, lower friction, and 24/7 availability compared to correspondent banking rails that can take days.

Why This Matters for the RWA Thesis

  • Payment rails are the front door of tokenization. Before tokenized treasuries, real estate, or private credit can scale, there needs to be a frictionless dollar settlement layer. Stablecoin payment infrastructure is that layer.
  • Incumbent capital validates the model. When Visa and Circle invest in the same payment platform, it signals integration expectations rather than speculative exposure.
  • Valuation discipline. A roughly $200 million post-money valuation for a Series A-stage payments company is notable — not a frothy crypto multiple, but a measured bet on enterprise adoption.

The Competitive Landscape

Velocity is not alone. A crowded field of stablecoin payment startups, treasury management platforms, and issuer-backed settlement networks is competing for the same enterprise customers. Differentiation will come down to compliance depth, corridor coverage, and integration with existing ERP and treasury systems. The strategic investors in this round give Velocity a distribution advantage that pure venture capital cannot match.

Forward-Looking Perspective

The real test is whether stablecoin payment volumes translate into durable enterprise contracts rather than pilot programs. If Visa, Circle, and Ripple are backing the same infrastructure, the market is signaling that the next phase of stablecoin growth will be measured not in trading volume but in invoices settled, payrolls processed, and treasury balances managed. That is a slower, less glamorous metric — and a far more durable one.
