Ripple and XRPL Foundation Launch XRP Asia to Accelerate XRPL Adoption in APAC

Ripple and the XRP Ledger Foundation have launched XRP Asia, a Singapore-based organization led by former Hedera VP Sabrina Tachdjian, to drive XRPL adoption across Asia-Pacific. The initiative will build on existing communities and develop scalable learning resources for developers, aiming to strengthen XRPL's position in cross-border payments and tokenization.

Ripple and XRPL Foundation Launch XRP Asia to Accelerate XRPL Adoption in APAC

Ripple and the XRP Ledger Foundation have jointly established XRP Asia, a new organization headquartered in Singapore and led by Sabrina Tachdjian, former Vice President at Hedera Foundation. The initiative aims to drive adoption of the XRP Ledger (XRPL) across the Asia-Pacific region by building on existing communities such as XRPL Korea and XRPL Japan while seeding new ones in major Asian cities and developer hubs.

XRP Asia will focus on creating scalable educational resources to lower the barrier for developers building on XRPL. The organization plans to support local meetups, hackathons, and developer training programs, with the goal of making it as easy as possible for developers to acquire the skills needed to build on the ledger.

Strategic Implications for the XRPL Ecosystem

The launch of XRP Asia signals a coordinated push to deepen XRPL’s footprint in one of the world’s most active crypto regions. Asia-Pacific has become a hotbed for blockchain innovation, with jurisdictions like Singapore, Japan, and South Korea offering relatively clear regulatory frameworks and vibrant developer communities. By establishing a dedicated entity in Singapore, Ripple and the XRPL Foundation are positioning themselves to capture growth in cross-border payments, tokenization, and DeFi applications built on XRPL.

The appointment of Sabrina Tachdjian, who brings experience from Hedera Foundation, suggests a focus on enterprise-grade adoption and ecosystem building. Her background in distributed ledger technology and community development could help XRP Asia bridge the gap between traditional finance and blockchain in the region.

Competitive Landscape and Challenges

XRPL faces stiff competition from other Layer 1 and Layer 2 networks that are also courting Asian developers. Ethereum, Solana, and emerging chains like Sui and Aptos have established strong presences in the region. To stand out, XRP Asia will need to leverage XRPL’s strengths—fast settlement, low fees, and a growing focus on real-world asset tokenization—while addressing perceptions that the ecosystem lacks smart contract flexibility compared to rivals.

Moreover, the regulatory environment across Asia remains fragmented. While Singapore and Japan have progressive frameworks, other countries like China maintain strict bans on crypto trading. XRP Asia will need to navigate these nuances carefully, tailoring its approach to each market.

Forward-Looking Perspective

If successful, XRP Asia could significantly boost XRPL’s developer activity and on-chain usage, potentially driving demand for XRP and strengthening its position in the cross-border payments sector. The initiative also aligns with Ripple’s broader strategy of expanding beyond its core payments business into areas like CBDCs and stablecoins.

However, the impact will depend on execution. Building a thriving developer ecosystem takes time and sustained investment. XRP Asia’s ability to foster local talent, forge partnerships, and deliver tangible resources will determine whether it can turn XRPL into a leading platform for Asian builders. The coming months will be crucial as the organization rolls out its programs and measures early traction.
