Qatar says US-Iran talks ongoing, mediating message exchange

Qatar's disclosure that it is carrying messages between Washington and Tehran matters less for what it says about the talks themselves than for what it reveals about the channel: Gulf states are positioning themselves as indispensable intermediaries, a role that carries diplomatic and economic weight beyond the substance of any single exchange. The open question is whether this mediation produces anything concrete, or whether it remains a mechanism for managing tension rather than resolving it. For markets, the significance lies in the signal that back-channel communication exists at all.
