XT Exchange at Eight: Crypto’s Next Billion Users Will Be Won on User Experience

At XT Exchange's eighth-anniversary X Space, COO Arman Achmed argued that the next billion crypto users will be won through faster payments, broader access, and simpler financial decisions — not through technical education. The message signals a broader industry shift toward user experience as the primary competitive battleground.

The Next Billion Won’t Come for Blockchain Lessons

At XT Exchange’s eighth-anniversary X Space, COO Arman Achmed reframed one of the industry’s most persistent questions. Instead of asking how to bring more people on-chain, he argued the more useful question is why anyone would want to be there in the first place. His answer: the next billion crypto users will arrive for faster payments, broader access, and simpler financial decisions — not for another lecture on blockchain fundamentals.

The exchange’s anniversary event, held on X, served as a platform for a broader thesis that has been gaining traction across the industry: infrastructure has matured faster than the interfaces built on top of it. Users, Achmed suggested, should not need to understand gas fees, seed phrases, or consensus mechanisms to benefit from decentralized finance. They should simply experience cheaper, faster, and more accessible financial services.

Why User Experience Is the Real Bottleneck

The crypto industry has spent years solving technical problems — scalability, interoperability, security — and has produced remarkable engineering. Yet mainstream adoption remains concentrated among a relatively small cohort of users. The gap is not primarily technical. It is experiential.

  • Onboarding friction: wallet creation, key management, and KYC processes remain daunting for non-technical users.
  • Payment speed: traditional remittance and settlement rails are slow and expensive, but crypto alternatives often confuse users with network selection and fee volatility.
  • Decision complexity: choosing between chains, tokens, and yield strategies overwhelms newcomers who simply want a savings account or a cheap transfer.

Achmed’s framing aligns with a broader shift in the industry, where exchanges and wallets are increasingly competing on interface design, fiat on-ramps, and customer support rather than pure product depth. The venues that win the next wave of users may not be the most technically advanced, but the ones that make crypto feel invisible.

Implications for Exchanges and DeFi Protocols

If user experience becomes the primary battleground, several strategic consequences follow. First, exchanges will need to invest heavily in abstraction layers — account abstraction, gasless transactions, and social recovery — to mask blockchain complexity. Second, DeFi protocols that prioritize intuitive interfaces and clear risk disclosures may capture retail flows that currently sit idle in centralized platforms. Third, payment-focused applications, particularly in emerging markets where remittances and inflation drive demand, could become the leading edge of adoption.

The anniversary message also carries a competitive subtext: exchanges that treat crypto as a niche technical product risk losing the next cohort to platforms that treat it as a consumer service.

Looking Ahead

The coming cycle will likely be defined less by new consensus mechanisms and more by design decisions. If Achmed is right, the winners will be those who stop asking users to learn crypto and start asking how crypto can learn to disappear into everyday finance. That shift, if it materializes, could finally move adoption from speculation to utility.
