TREE NEWS update: Walmart opened its Futian KK ONE store in Shenzhen on October 11, located on the basement level of the KK ONE shopping mall in Futian District. It is Walmart’s 49th store in Shenzhen and the first of its new-generation format in the city, following new-format openings in Chengdu and Nanning, making it the third such store Walmart has opened within a month.
Walmart Opens New-Generation Store in Shenzhen Futian KK ONE

The pace matters more than the single opening: three new-generation stores in a month, across three different cities, suggests Walmart is testing a standardized format rather than running a one-off pilot. Shenzhen's Futian district is a dense, high-traffic urban core, so the KK ONE site reads as a deliberate bet on compact, mall-anchored retail over the big-box model. Whether the format's economics hold outside prime locations, and whether the rollout continues at this cadence, is the open question.
