Tare Raises $13.25M Seed Led by Blockchain Capital to Build Crypto-Native Loan Servicing

Fintech startup Tare closed a $13.25 million seed round led by Blockchain Capital, with backing from Janus Henderson, Avalanche Foundation and angels including Aave's Stani Kulechov and Tether co-founder Phil Potter. The funds will build loan management software and secure nationwide lending licenses for Tare Credit LLC, targeting the convergence of crypto capital and traditional credit.

Tare Secures $13.25M to Bridge Crypto Capital and Real-World Credit

Fintech startup Tare has closed a $13.25 million seed round led by Blockchain Capital, with participation from Janus Henderson, Strobe Ventures, the Venture Dept, Neoclassic Capital and the Avalanche Foundation. Angel investors include Aave founder and CEO Stani Kulechov, Tether co-founder Phil Potter and Privy CEO Henri Stern. The company said proceeds will fund development and expansion of its loan management software, hiring, and the licensing needed for its lending arm, Tare Credit LLC, to operate across the United States.

Why This Round Matters Beyond the Dollar Figure

The cap table is the story. Tare has assembled a syndicate that spans the crypto-native side of the market — Aave, Tether, Avalanche, Privy — and traditional asset management in the form of Janus Henderson. That combination signals a specific thesis: credit infrastructure that treats on-chain and off-chain capital as a single pool rather than two separate worlds.

Loan servicing and management software is unglamorous, but it is precisely where the real-world asset (RWA) sector has struggled. Tokenized treasuries and private credit funds have grown quickly, yet the operational layer — origination, servicing, compliance, reporting, collateral tracking — remains fragmented and largely manual. Tare is positioning itself as the plumbing that lets crypto balance sheets originate and hold conventional loans without building bespoke back-office systems.

The Regulatory Angle Is the Real Moat

Pursuing nationwide licensing for Tare Credit LLC is a deliberate choice. Lending licenses are expensive, slow and jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction, which is exactly why they function as a barrier to entry. Firms that secure them gain the ability to lend across state lines and to serve institutional counterparties that cannot work with unlicensed originators. In a market where many DeFi lending protocols remain offshore or unlicensed, a compliant US lending entity is a differentiated product.

It also aligns with the broader convergence trend. Traditional asset managers such as Janus Henderson are increasingly exploring tokenized credit strategies, and they need servicing partners that understand both blockchain settlement and conventional loan documentation. Tare’s software sits at that intersection.

What to Watch Next

  • License timeline: How quickly Tare Credit LLC obtains state lending approvals will determine when it can actually deploy capital at scale.
  • First partners: Whether the software is adopted by DeFi protocols seeking yield, or by TradFi lenders seeking on-chain rails, will reveal the true go-to-market.
  • Avalanche’s role: The Avalanche Foundation’s participation hints at possible deployment on Avalanche subnets or institutional-focused chains.
  • Competitive set: Tare will compete with established loan servicing vendors and with crypto-native credit platforms such as Maple and Centrifuge, which have already built RWA lending rails.

The seed round is small relative to the ambition. But the investor mix suggests the market is betting that the next phase of RWA growth will be won not by tokenization alone, but by the compliance-heavy, operationally complex servicing layer underneath it.
