Wirex One Launches on Arc Mainnet, Betting Stablecoin Private Banking Can Win the Mass Affluent

Wirex has publicly launched Wirex One, a stablecoin neobank aimed at mass affluent consumers, debuting as a day-one partner on Arc's mainnet. The move tests whether stablecoin-native private banking can win customers who fall between retail apps and traditional wealth management.

Wirex One Goes Public on Arc, Targeting the Mass Affluent With Stablecoin-Native Private Banking

Wirex, the London-based stablecoin infrastructure provider, has launched Wirex One to the public, positioning it as the first stablecoin neobank built specifically for the mass affluent segment. The platform debuts as a day-one launch partner on Arc’s mainnet, offering what the company describes as a private banking experience with true asset ownership. The public release follows a closed beta period.

The launch lands at a moment when stablecoins have crossed from a crypto-native curiosity into a core piece of global payments infrastructure, with total supply now measured in the hundreds of billions of dollars and daily settlement volumes rivaling major card networks. Wirex’s pitch is that the wealthy-but-not-super-rich — households and professionals with investable assets that fall short of traditional private banking thresholds — are underserved by both legacy banks and retail crypto apps.

Why Arc Matters for the Stablecoin Thesis

Choosing Arc as the launch venue is a strategic statement. Arc has positioned itself as a settlement layer optimized for stablecoin flows, with compliance tooling and institutional-grade finality baked into the base layer rather than bolted on. For Wirex One, that means users can hold, move, and earn on stablecoin balances without the friction of bridging across chains or reconciling fragmented liquidity.

The “true asset ownership” framing is equally pointed. In most neobank models, customers hold a claim on an intermediary. Wirex is signaling that Wirex One users control keys and assets directly, a distinction that matters both philosophically and practically — particularly for users in jurisdictions with unstable banking systems.

The Mass Affluent Opportunity and Its Risks

The mass affluent segment is one of the most contested in financial services. Traditional private banks have historically ignored it because the economics don’t support relationship managers, while retail apps lack the product depth these customers expect. A stablecoin-native platform can thread that needle with lower overhead and programmable yield, but it faces real challenges:

  • Regulatory perimeter: Offering banking-like services across borders invites scrutiny under MiCA in Europe, emerging stablecoin rules in the US, and a patchwork of local licensing regimes.
  • Yield sourcing: Sustainable returns in a stablecoin account depend on T-bill rates and DeFi strategies that can compress quickly if central banks cut.
  • Trust and brand: Mass affluent users are conservative. Convincing them to move savings on-chain requires more than a slick interface.
  • Competition: Fintechs, exchanges, and even traditional banks are all racing toward the same customer with tokenized deposit and stablecoin products.

What to Watch Next

The real test for Wirex One isn’t the launch — it’s retention and asset growth over the next two to four quarters. Key metrics will include average balance per user, the share of assets held in yield-bearing products versus idle balances, and whether Arc gains meaningful stablecoin TVL from the partnership. If Wirex can demonstrate that mass affluent users will custody meaningful sums on-chain, it strengthens the case for every stablecoin neobank in development. If adoption stalls, it will reinforce the view that private banking’s moat is trust and regulation, not technology.

Either way, the launch marks another step in the convergence of stablecoin infrastructure and traditional wealth management — a trend that will define the next phase of crypto’s institutional adoption.
