China’s SASAC urges central SOEs to boost applied basic research

China’s State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) held a symposium on September 3 for central enterprises’ industry common technology research institutes. The meeting stressed the need to accurately define their functional positioning, strengthen public welfare attributes, and focus on industry development, market demand, and frontier technologies. It called for enhancing applied basic research, accelerating technology iteration through industry application scenarios, and setting scientific value goals, including training young talent.
