WFP expands anticipatory action to shield 500,000 from El Niño

The World Food Programme (WFP) said it is taking preventive measures with partners to mitigate the impact of a super El Niño. Since May, WFP has launched anticipatory action plans in South Sudan, Chad, Mauritania, Uganda, Guatemala and El Salvador, helping about 500,000 people cope with disaster risks. It is also scaling up pre-financing mechanisms like disaster risk insurance, credit and digital payments to mobilize aid more cost-effectively.
