TREE NEWS update: Tung Chee-hwa, former vice chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and the first Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, died peacefully in hospital on the evening of September 8, 2026, at around 10 PM, surrounded by family. He was 89. His office announced the news in the early hours of September 9.
