China VP He Lifeng Meets Canada’s CCTCC Honorary Chair Andre Desmarais

This high-level meeting signals a continued channel for economic dialogue between China and Canada, even as broader bilateral trade tensions persist. The involvement of a senior economic official and a prominent trade council figure suggests both sides are prioritizing private-sector and institutional ties as a stabilizing force. What matters next is whether this engagement translates into concrete outcomes on trade barriers or investment flows, rather than remaining a symbolic gesture. The open question is whether such forums can produce tangible progress or if they are merely maintaining a baseline of communication.
