THORWallet Adds Native Monero Support, Bridging Privacy Coin With Cross-Chain DeFi

THORWallet has integrated the Monero network, enabling native XMR sending and receiving plus multiple accounts from a single seed. The move brings the leading privacy coin closer to mainstream cross-chain DeFi interfaces, though regulatory and liquidity questions remain.

Monero Lands in THORWallet With Native XMR Support

THORWallet has integrated the Monero network directly into its application, giving users native access to XMR for the first time. The integration supports core functionality including sending and receiving XMR, but it extends well past basic wallet mechanics. Users can create and manage multiple Monero accounts derived from a single wallet seed, offering greater flexibility for managing activity across the network.

The move marks a notable step for a wallet built around cross-chain swaps and decentralized finance tooling, since Monero has historically been one of the least interoperable assets in the crypto ecosystem.

Why This Integration Matters

Monero is the largest privacy-focused cryptocurrency by market capitalization, but its design choices have long kept it on the periphery of DeFi. Exchanges have delisted XMR under regulatory pressure, and most bridges and smart contract platforms avoid it entirely. Bringing native XMR support into a wallet that also handles cross-chain swaps signals a different approach: rather than wrapping Monero into an ERC-20 or similar derivative, THORWallet is treating the Monero network as a first-class citizen.

The multi-account feature derived from a single seed is also significant for privacy hygiene. Users can separate activity across different accounts without juggling multiple recovery phrases, a common friction point that has pushed privacy-conscious users toward more cumbersome setups.

Key features of the integration:

  • Native send and receive support for XMR within the THORWallet app
  • Multiple Monero accounts derived from one wallet seed
  • Direct access to the Monero network without wrapping or custodial intermediaries

Privacy and DeFi: An Uneasy but Evolving Relationship

The broader DeFi sector has had a complicated relationship with privacy coins. Regulatory scrutiny, particularly around anti-money laundering rules, has made many protocols cautious about integrating assets like Monero. At the same time, demand for financial privacy has not disappeared, and users increasingly seek wallets that can hold both transparent and private assets without forcing them into separate, fragmented workflows.

THORWallet’s integration suggests that some builders see privacy as a feature worth supporting rather than a compliance liability to avoid. Whether that stance holds up as regulatory frameworks tighten remains an open question, but the technical groundwork is now in place.

Looking Ahead

If native Monero support proves popular, it could encourage other multi-chain wallets to follow suit, gradually normalizing XMR access within broader DeFi interfaces. The bigger test will be whether liquidity and swap routes for XMR deepen over time, turning the asset from a hold-only privacy tool into something users can actively deploy. For now, THORWallet has planted a flag: privacy coins and cross-chain DeFi do not have to live in separate worlds.
