Institutional heavyweights double down on OKX
TREE NEWS reports: OKX has secured fresh backing from some of the most prominent names in traditional finance and crypto infrastructure. Circle, Qube Research & Technologies (QRT), Ripple and SC Ventures, the venture arm of Standard Chartered, have all invested in the exchange at a $25 billion pre-money valuation. The deal extends a funding round led by Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the owner of the New York Stock Exchange, which was announced in March. The amount raised in this latest tranche was not disclosed.
Notably, the valuation remains unchanged from the ICE-led round, signalling that investors are comfortable with OKX’s current price despite a volatile market backdrop. Each of the new backers already has an existing business relationship with the exchange, suggesting the investments are strategic rather than purely financial.
Why these investors matter
- Circle — the issuer of USDC, the second-largest stablecoin, deepens a partnership that could expand stablecoin liquidity and settlement rails on OKX.
- SC Ventures (Standard Chartered) — the bank’s venture arm adds another TradFi anchor, following ICE’s involvement.
- Ripple — brings cross-border payment and custody infrastructure into the fold, potentially connecting OKX to enterprise liquidity corridors.
- QRT — a quantitative trading firm whose market-making expertise could improve order-book depth.
The bigger picture: TradFi meets crypto rails
The composition of this cap table is the real story. An exchange operator (ICE), a global bank (Standard Chartered), a stablecoin issuer (Circle), a payments network (Ripple) and a quant fund (QRT) are all converging on the same crypto venue. That is a textbook example of TradFi and DeFi infrastructure blending — the same convergence driving the tokenization of real-world assets, where banks and asset managers seek regulated, scalable rails for digital settlement.
For OKX, the strategic value goes beyond capital. Each investor opens a lane: stablecoin settlement, banking-grade compliance, cross-border payments, and institutional liquidity. For the investors, OKX offers distribution into crypto-native markets and a regulated footprint across multiple jurisdictions.
Forward-looking perspective
The unchanged $25 billion valuation is a signal of discipline in a market that has punished overreach. If OKX can convert these relationships into product — tokenized money-market funds, regulated stablecoin rails, institutional custody — it could position itself as a bridge between legacy finance and on-chain markets. The risk is execution: integrating five very different partners without diluting focus. Watch for concrete announcements around stablecoin settlement, tokenized collateral, and cross-border payment corridors in the coming quarters. Those will determine whether this round was a strategic masterstroke or merely a well-connected cap table.
