BitMine’s Ethereum Treasury Hits $15.3B as Tom Lee Bets on Next Bull Cycle

BitMine has grown its Ethereum treasury to 6,028,946 ETH, worth roughly $15.3 billion and nearly 5% of ETH's supply. Chairman Tom Lee says the strategy could help drive the next crypto bull cycle, signaling a corporate shift toward Ethereum as a reserve asset.

BitMine’s Ethereum Treasury Hits $15.3B as Tom Lee Bets on Next Bull Cycle

BitMine Immersion Technologies has expanded its Ethereum holdings to 6,028,946 ETH, a position worth roughly $15.3 billion at current prices. The company’s chairman, Tom Lee, framed the accumulation as a strategic bet that could help ignite the next major crypto bull market.

Nearly 5% of Ethereum’s Supply

The treasury now represents about 4.9% of Ethereum’s 122.1 million circulating supply, making BitMine one of the largest single holders of the asset outside of staking pools, exchanges, and foundation wallets. That concentration is notable for a publicly traded company and signals a shift in how corporate balance sheets are being used to express conviction in digital assets.

Lee, known for his bullish macro calls, has argued that Ethereum’s role as a settlement layer and yield-generating asset makes it uniquely suited for corporate treasuries. The strategy echoes the corporate Bitcoin playbook popularized by other public companies, but applies it to the second-largest cryptocurrency.

Why It Matters for the Market

  • Supply dynamics: Locking up nearly 5% of ETH reduces liquid float, which can amplify price moves during demand surges.
  • Institutional validation: A listed company holding billions in ETH lends credibility to the asset class among traditional investors.
  • Yield strategy: Staking and restaking could turn the treasury into a productive asset, generating returns beyond price appreciation.
  • Reflexivity risk: Concentrated corporate holdings cut both ways — forced selling during drawdowns could pressure markets.

BitMine’s move also raises questions about governance and influence. With such a large stake, the company could wield meaningful voting power in Ethereum’s decentralized ecosystem, though it has not signaled any intent to actively shape protocol decisions.

Forward Outlook

Lee’s thesis rests on the idea that Ethereum’s fundamentals — staking yields, ETF flows, and growing Layer 2 activity — will drive the next leg of the cycle. If other corporates follow BitMine’s lead, ETH could see a structural supply squeeze similar to what Bitcoin experienced after MicroStrategy’s aggressive accumulation.

However, the strategy carries real risk. Ethereum’s price is volatile, and a prolonged downturn could force BitMine to mark down its treasury or liquidate portions to meet obligations. Investors should watch the company’s disclosures for signs of leverage, hedging, or staking arrangements that could change the risk profile.

For now, BitMine’s bet is one of the boldest corporate crypto plays of the cycle — and a signal that Ethereum is increasingly being treated as a reserve asset, not just a speculative token.
