Xi Jinping Visits Ulanqab to Push Green Computing Power and National Computing Network

Xi Jinping's visit to Ulanqab highlights China's push for green computing power and the national computing network. This strategic move could accelerate sustainable crypto mining, DePIN, and RWA tokenization, while integrating digital and real economies.

Xi Jinping Visits Ulanqab to Push Green Computing Power and National Computing Network

On October 16, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, visited the Chahar High-tech Development Zone in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia, to inspect the progress of the “East Data West Computing” project hub and the development of green computing power industries. Ulanqab, rich in wind and solar resources, has leveraged green electricity, climate, and location advantages to develop its green computing sector. Xi emphasized that the “East Data West Computing” project and the construction of a national integrated computing network are key deployments of the Party Central Committee. He called for scientific planning, resource support, and security guarantees to ensure efficient operation of completed projects and timely completion of ongoing ones. He also stressed extending the industrial chain, integrating the digital economy with the real economy, and transforming computing advantages into development advantages. The computing network is one of the “six networks” in national planning, and Xi highlighted the need for efficient, green, and safe operations, with attention to “computing-power coordination” and “computing-water coordination.”

Industry Analysis and Implications

This high-level endorsement underscores China’s strategic push to integrate renewable energy with computing infrastructure, a move with significant implications for the crypto and blockchain sectors. The “East Data West Computing” initiative aims to relocate data processing from eastern economic hubs to western regions with abundant green energy, reducing costs and carbon footprint. For the crypto industry, this could accelerate the development of green mining and decentralized computing networks. Bitcoin mining, often criticized for its energy consumption, may find new opportunities in regions like Ulanqab where surplus green power can be utilized. Moreover, the emphasis on “computing-power coordination” and “computing-water coordination” signals a holistic approach to resource management, which could inspire similar models in decentralized physical infrastructure networks (DePIN) and AI-driven compute marketplaces.

The integration of digital and real economies also aligns with the growing trend of real-world asset (RWA) tokenization, where blockchain technology can enhance transparency and efficiency in supply chains and energy trading. As China advances its national computing network, it may set standards that influence global blockchain infrastructure, particularly in areas like cross-border data flows and green finance.

Forward-Looking Perspective

Looking ahead, the convergence of green energy and computing power could catalyze innovation in sustainable blockchain solutions. Projects focusing on carbon-neutral mining, decentralized cloud computing, and tokenized energy credits stand to benefit. However, regulatory clarity and infrastructure development will be crucial. As China builds its national computing network, the crypto industry should monitor policy shifts and explore synergies with state-led initiatives. The emphasis on security and efficiency may also drive adoption of permissioned blockchains and privacy-preserving technologies. Ultimately, this move reinforces the global trend of integrating digital assets with tangible economic value, paving the way for a more interconnected and sustainable digital future.
