Injective Taps KRW1 as Sole Korean Won Settlement Asset for RWA and Tokenization

Injective has partnered with BDACS to make KRW1 the exclusive Korean won settlement asset for RWA and tokenization on its network, enabling direct won-denominated trading and settlement without USD stablecoin intermediation. The compliance-focused model restricts minting and redemption to approved institutions.

Injective Partners with BDACS to Bring Korean Won Settlement On-Chain

Injective has signed a memorandum of understanding with BDACS to designate KRW1, a Korean won-pegged stablecoin issued by BDACS, as the sole Korean won settlement asset for real-world asset (RWA) and tokenization activities on the Injective network. The collaboration aims to enable tokenized assets to be traded and settled directly in Korean won on Injective, eliminating the need to route transactions through U.S. dollar stablecoins. KRW1 minting and redemption will be restricted to approved institutional partners and subject to regulatory compliance.

Why a Dedicated Won Rail Matters

The arrangement addresses a long-standing friction in Asian digital asset markets: the dominance of dollar stablecoins as the default settlement layer. For Korean institutional participants, converting won to a dollar stablecoin and then into a tokenized asset introduces FX exposure, extra fees, and settlement delays. By making KRW1 the exclusive won settlement asset on Injective, the partners are effectively building a compliant, institution-grade on-ramp for Korean capital into tokenized RWAs.

Injective’s architecture, which is optimized for finance-specific applications and interoperability across major blockchains, provides a natural venue for such assets. The network has increasingly positioned itself as a hub for tokenized treasuries, private credit, and other yield-bearing instruments. Adding a regulated won stablecoin could deepen liquidity and attract Korean asset managers exploring tokenization.

Compliance-First Design

The restriction of KRW1 minting and redemption to approved institutional partners is notable. It signals a permissioned approach to stablecoin issuance that aligns with South Korea’s evolving regulatory framework, which has emphasized investor protection and AML/KYC requirements for digital asset service providers. This gated model may limit retail access in the short term but could accelerate institutional adoption by providing clearer legal and operational certainty.

  • Injective: Gains a regulated won settlement rail, enhancing its RWA value proposition.
  • BDACS: Expands KRW1’s utility beyond custody and into on-chain settlement.
  • Korean institutions: Access tokenized assets without USD intermediation.

Forward Look

The partnership is a bet that regional stablecoins will proliferate alongside tokenized assets. If successful, it could encourage similar arrangements in other Asian markets, where local-currency settlement is a key demand from institutions. The critical test will be whether KRW1 can attract sufficient liquidity and whether Korean regulators continue to permit such gated stablecoin models. For now, Injective has secured a first-mover advantage in the Korean won RWA corridor.
