Extended Unveils XTEN Tokenomics: 32.9% Unlocked at TGE, 17.38M Airdrop to Operating Entity

Extended has announced the tokenomics for its XTEN token, with a total supply of 1 billion and 32.9% unlocked at TGE. 30% goes to points campaign participants, fully unlocked, while 17.38 million tokens from the airdrop are allocated to the operating entity. The high initial float and allocation raise questions about selling pressure and centralization.

Extended Reveals XTEN Tokenomics Ahead of TGE

Decentralized perpetuals trading platform Extended has disclosed the tokenomics for its native XTEN token, setting the stage for its token generation event (TGE). The total supply is capped at 1 billion tokens, with a notable 32.9% unlocking at TGE. A significant portion—30%—is allocated to participants of the platform’s points campaign, fully unlocked at TGE. Another 20% is earmarked for ecosystem development and staking rewards, while the remaining 50% is distributed among other categories, including the team, investors, and treasury. Notably, 17.38 million tokens from the airdrop allocation are designated for the operating entity.

Allocation Breakdown and Unlock Implications

The token distribution raises eyebrows due to the high initial float. With nearly a third of the supply hitting the market at TGE, liquidity and price discovery will be tested. The 30% points allocation, fully unlocked, could lead to immediate selling pressure, especially if airdrop farmers choose to exit. However, the 20% for ecosystem and staking rewards suggests a long-term incentive structure to retain users. The 17.38 million tokens allocated to the operating entity—roughly 1.74% of total supply—could be used for market making or operational expenses, but also raises centralization concerns.

Industry Analysis: Perpetuals DEXs and Token Launches

Extended joins a crowded field of decentralized perpetual exchanges (perp DEXs) like dYdX, GMX, and Hyperliquid, all vying for market share in the lucrative derivatives trading sector. Token launches in this space often face scrutiny over valuation and utility. XTEN’s utility likely includes staking, fee discounts, and governance, but the high TGE unlock may deter long-term holders. The allocation to the operating entity could be seen as a necessary war chest, but transparency will be key to maintaining community trust.

Furthermore, the points campaign model has become a double-edged sword. While it drives user engagement, it also attracts mercenary capital. Extended’s decision to fully unlock the points allocation at TGE might incentivize short-term participation but risks undermining token stability. The success of XTEN will depend on the platform’s ability to generate real trading volume and fees, and to offer compelling staking rewards to offset selling pressure.

Forward-Looking Perspective

As the TGE approaches, all eyes will be on Extended’s execution. The project must balance initial liquidity with long-term value accrual. If the team can demonstrate strong protocol revenue and a clear roadmap for ecosystem growth, XTEN could weather the initial unlock. However, in a market where airdrop fatigue is real, Extended will need to innovate beyond tokenomics to stand out. The coming months will reveal whether XTEN becomes a sustainable asset or another cautionary tale of over-optimistic token design.
