TREE NEWS update: Police in Rivers State, Nigeria, reported that around 40 people died on May 3 from inhaling toxic fumes during an illegal oil transfer operation. About 200 locals had gathered at a dock to offload petroleum products from a vessel when they were overcome by gas. At least 37 bodies have been recovered, with several people still missing and others hospitalized.
