Putin to meet US special envoy Witkoff at Konstantin Palace

The venue choice carries as much signal as the meeting itself: a presidential residence outside St. Petersburg rather than the Kremlin suggests a session staged for atmosphere rather than bureaucratic routine. For markets exposed to sanctions, energy and commodity flows, the significance lies less in the meeting than in whether it becomes a recurring channel — Witkoff's envoy role implies a direct line that bypasses standard diplomatic machinery. The absence of any stated agenda or timing is the notable detail; it leaves the encounter's substance entirely opaque. Whether this produces a durable negotiating track, or remains a one-off gesture, is the open question worth watching.
