Reddit CEO: Google AI Overviews and AI Mode Are Biggest Drivers of Search Traffic Decline

The significance here is attribution: a named platform executive is pointing at Google's AI-generated search results, not algorithm shifts or user behavior, as the cause of falling referrals. That framing matters for any content site whose distribution depends on search, since it turns a traffic issue into a structural one about how AI answers displace clicks. The item offers no figures, so the scale of the decline remains unquantified. What's worth watching is whether other platforms corroborate the claim, and whether Google's AI search features keep expanding without a referral mechanism for the sources they draw on.
