Canada’s exports to US fall to lowest non-pandemic level since 1997

Canada’s trade surplus narrowed sharply in July as gold and energy exports fell, with the share of exports going to the US dropping to 66.3%, the lowest since 1997 excluding pandemic periods. Exports to the US declined 6.6% month-over-month, the largest drop since April 2025.
