TREE NEWS update: The LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) dark matter detector in South Dakota, the world’s largest, has detected a single anomalous event in 220 days of data collected from March 2023 to April 2024. The signal cannot be explained by known backgrounds and may be a dark matter particle, though confirmation is pending. Results were presented at the TeV Particle Astrophysics conference and submitted to Physical Review Letters.
