US Treasury Doubles Long-Dated Bond Buybacks to Curb Yield Spike

The US Treasury announced it will double the maximum size of its long-dated bond repurchase operations to at least $40 billion, effective September 9 to November 4, 2026, in response to the 30-year yield hitting a 19-year high of 5.34%. The move triggered a bond rally, stock gains, and a 5% jump in Bitcoin, but analysts warn it does not address the structural fiscal deficit and debt supply imbalance.
