Ethereum holders weighing how to use idle ETH face a choice between native staking and DeFi lending, which serve different needs. Native staking earns protocol rewards by capitalizing on long holding periods, while post-Pectra 0x02 compounding validators raised the maximum effective balance per validator from 32 ETH to 2,048 ETH. Lending, such as on Aave, releases liquidity against ETH collateral but adds debt, interest-rate and liquidation risk.

Pools and the treasury would run until the end of Q2 2027. Around 6 million uncirculated BAL would serve as pre-fork funding, and Balancer’s treasury would receive 10% of a post-fork token’s fully diluted valuation if a TGE occurs. The proposal remains under discussion before a Snapshot vote.
