Crypto Narrative Fatigue: Capital Shifts to Trading, Stablecoins, and Revenue-Generating Products

IOSG Ventures reports a shift in crypto capital from narratives to trading, stablecoins, and revenue-generating products. Traditional finance is entering infrastructure, while native funds favor perpetual DEXs and prediction markets. AI agents remain hyped but lack trading volume, with investors focusing on products with real revenue and buybacks.

Crypto Narrative Fatigue: Capital Shifts to Trading, Stablecoins, and Revenue-Generating Products

At the recent Korea Blockchain Week (KBW) and TOKEN2049 conferences, IOSG Ventures observed that while enthusiasm for the crypto industry remains, the composition of participants and the direction of capital are undergoing a significant transformation. Traditional financial institutions are accelerating their entry into trading, custody, stablecoins, and tokenization infrastructure, while native crypto capital is increasingly flowing toward trading venues such as perpetual DEXs and prediction markets. Although AI agents were a focal point at both events, actual trading volumes remain limited, with capital gravitating toward AI products that already have revenue and buyback mechanisms. Overall, the market is gradually shifting from narrative and new-coin-driven speculation toward revenue, distribution channels, and real trading demand.

Traditional Finance and Native Capital Diverge

The report highlights a clear bifurcation in capital flows. Traditional finance is moving into crypto infrastructure—trading, custody, stablecoins, and tokenization—with a focus on regulatory compliance and institutional-grade services. Meanwhile, native crypto funds are rotating away from speculative narratives and toward trading-centric applications like perpetual DEXs and prediction markets, where real user demand and fee generation are more evident.

AI Agents: Hype vs. Reality

AI agents dominated conversations at both conferences, but IOSG notes that actual trading scale remains small. Investors are prioritizing AI products with existing revenue streams and token buyback mechanisms, signaling a shift from hype to fundamentals. This aligns with a broader market trend where projects must demonstrate real usage and sustainable tokenomics to attract capital.

Implications for the Industry

The shift toward revenue and distribution channels suggests that crypto markets are maturing. Projects that can generate real income and reach users effectively will likely outperform those relying solely on narrative. The rise of perpetual DEXs and prediction markets indicates a growing demand for sophisticated trading tools, while traditional finance’s entry could bring greater liquidity and legitimacy to the space.

Forward-Looking Perspective

As the market continues to evolve, expect further consolidation around products with proven traction. The convergence of traditional finance and native crypto in trading and infrastructure may accelerate, while AI agents will need to prove their economic value beyond conference buzz. Investors should watch for projects that combine real revenue, strong distribution, and genuine trading demand—these will likely lead the next phase of growth.
