Janus Henderson Launches Tokenized Nasdaq-100 Fund on Stellar with Centrifuge

Janus Henderson has launched JQQQ, a tokenized Nasdaq-100 fund, exclusively on the Stellar blockchain in partnership with Centrifuge. The fund is closed to U.S. persons and marks a significant step in the convergence of traditional finance and DeFi.

A New Era for Tokenized TradFi

Janus Henderson, the global asset manager with over $350 billion in assets under management, has launched JQQQ, a tokenized fund tracking the Nasdaq-100 index, exclusively on the Stellar blockchain. The fund is issued directly on a public blockchain under a Nasdaq license and is managed in partnership with Centrifuge, a decentralized asset financing protocol. The product is closed to U.S. persons, and details regarding fee rates and minimum investment were not disclosed in the announcement.

Why Stellar and Centrifuge?

Stellar’s low-cost, high-speed infrastructure and built-in compliance features make it an attractive choice for regulated financial products. Centrifuge provides the tokenization rails and asset management framework, enabling Janus Henderson to issue fund shares on-chain while maintaining traditional custody and regulatory oversight. This collaboration marks a significant step in the convergence of traditional finance (TradFi) and decentralized finance (DeFi), as major asset managers seek to tap into the efficiency and global reach of blockchain technology.

Implications for the RWA Sector

The launch of JQQQ is a strong signal that real-world asset (RWA) tokenization is moving beyond proof-of-concept into production-grade offerings. By tokenizing a widely recognized index like the Nasdaq-100, Janus Henderson is bridging the gap between mainstream investors and on-chain markets. This could pave the way for more traditional asset managers to explore similar products, potentially increasing liquidity and accessibility in the tokenized asset space. However, the exclusion of U.S. persons highlights the ongoing regulatory uncertainty in the United States, where securities laws remain a hurdle for tokenized funds.

Forward-Looking Perspective

As the RWA sector continues to mature, we can expect more high-profile launches from established financial institutions. The success of JQQQ will depend on investor demand, regulatory clarity in key jurisdictions, and the ability of the Stellar and Centrifuge ecosystems to provide a seamless user experience. If successful, this could catalyze a wave of tokenized index funds and ETFs, further integrating blockchain into mainstream finance. For now, Janus Henderson’s move positions it as a pioneer in the tokenized asset revolution, setting a precedent for others to follow.
