Plume Launches FACTOR Vault, Bringing Invoice Factoring and Working Capital Loans On-Chain

Plume has partnered with Tradeable and Deep Ocean Partners to launch FACTOR, a capped vault investing in actively managed invoice factoring and working capital loans. The product pushes RWA tokenization beyond Treasuries into private credit, testing whether on-chain distribution can work for short-duration, cash-flow-backed assets.

Plume Launches FACTOR Vault, Bringing Invoice Factoring and Working Capital Loans On-Chain

Plume, the RWA-focused Layer 2 network, has partnered with Tradeable and Deep Ocean Partners to launch FACTOR, a capped vault that invests directly in a curated, actively managed portfolio of invoice factoring and working capital loans. The product is structured alongside a registered lender, giving on-chain participants exposure to short-duration, cash-flow-generating credit that has traditionally been the preserve of institutional balance sheets.

What FACTOR Actually Does

Invoice factoring is one of the oldest forms of trade finance: a business sells its unpaid invoices at a discount to a financier, which collects the receivable and keeps the spread. Working capital loans extend the same logic — short tenors, real collateral or receivables backing, and yields tied to the operating cycle of real businesses rather than to crypto-native speculation.

FACTOR packages that exposure into a tokenized, capacity-limited vault. The key design choices matter:

  • Capped capacity: a hard ceiling on deposits prevents the vault from scaling faster than the underlying loan book can absorb capital, a common failure mode in yield products.
  • Active management: Deep Ocean Partners screens and manages the underlying receivables rather than relying on a passive index.
  • Regulated wrapper: the tie-in with a registered lender keeps the origination side inside a compliance perimeter, which is increasingly the price of admission for institutional capital.

Why This Matters for RWA

The tokenization narrative has spent two years promising that real-world yield would migrate on-chain. Most of that migration so far has been in Treasuries and money-market funds — safe, liquid, and boring. Private credit is the next frontier, and it is a much harder problem: credit assessment, servicing, collections, and legal enforceability do not compress neatly into a smart contract.

Plume’s bet is that the chain can handle the distribution and settlement layer while specialist partners handle the credit work. If FACTOR performs, it establishes a template for other private-credit verticals — trade finance, equipment leasing, merchant cash advances — to tokenize without pretending that underwriting is decentralized.

Risks to Watch

Investors should not mistake ‘real-world’ for ‘risk-free.’ Factoring portfolios carry dilution risk, fraud risk (double-pledged invoices are a recurring industry problem), and concentration risk if a small number of obligors dominate. The capped structure mitigates scale risk but not credit risk. Transparency on default rates, aging schedules, and obligor concentration will be the real test of whether this product deserves institutional allocations.

Forward-Looking View

Plume is positioning itself as the settlement layer for tokenized credit rather than just another general-purpose L2. If FACTOR attracts meaningful deposits, expect competitors to launch similar vehicles and expect regulators to take a closer look at how tokenized private credit is marketed to retail. The vault is a small product; the precedent it sets is not.
