Mirae Asset Securities Adds Digital Asset Hub to M-STOCK, Rebrands as MAPS on October 1
TREE NEWS reports: South Korea’s Mirae Asset Securities has added a dedicated digital asset section to its M-STOCK equities trading app, giving retail users access to cryptocurrency prices, global market capitalization, 24-hour trading volume, Bitcoin dominance, the so-called kimchi premium, and live quotes for US-listed Bitcoin and Ethereum spot ETFs. The brokerage will rename the platform MAPS on October 1.
What the Move Signals
The addition is more than a cosmetic feature update. By embedding crypto market data inside a mainstream securities app, Mirae Asset is effectively treating digital assets as a standard asset class for its retail base — alongside Korean equities and overseas stocks. That is a meaningful shift for a market where crypto trading has historically lived on dedicated exchanges such as Upbit, Bithumb and Coinone, separate from the traditional brokerage stack.
Including the kimchi premium is particularly notable. The metric — the gap between Korean and global Bitcoin prices — is a uniquely local indicator of retail sentiment and capital-flow friction. Displaying it inside a securities app normalizes a data point that was once the preserve of crypto-native analytics platforms.
The ETF Angle
The inclusion of US Bitcoin and Ethereum spot ETF quotes is arguably the most strategically important element. Korean regulators have yet to approve domestic spot crypto ETFs, and pension and institutional allocations remain constrained. By surfacing US-listed products, Mirae Asset gives Korean investors visibility into instruments they cannot yet buy locally — a soft form of demand-building that could pressure regulators as the domestic ETF debate advances.
Why Now
- Korea’s retail crypto participation remains among the highest per capita globally, but it is fragmented across exchanges and brokers.
- Global asset managers are increasingly folding digital assets into multi-asset platforms rather than treating them as a separate silo.
- The October 1 rebrand suggests Mirae Asset is positioning MAPS as a broader, multi-asset destination rather than a stock-only tool.
Forward Look
The critical question is whether data leads to execution. If MAPS eventually adds crypto trading, custody or tokenized asset products, Mirae Asset would become one of the first major Korean brokerages to bridge traditional and digital markets under one roof. That would intensify competition with incumbent crypto exchanges and could accelerate institutional-grade infrastructure buildout in Seoul. For now, the app stops at information — but in a market this retail-driven, information is often the first step toward allocation.
